Sergeant Omar Aly has been employed with the Jersey City Police Department (JCPD) since January of 2014. He was initially assigned to the Patrol Division of the West District for approximately 3 years, working both in uniform and in plain clothes. Sergeant Aly was then assigned to the JCPD Street Crimes Unit where he worked in plain clothes and in an undercover capacity. During his assignment to the Street Crimes Unit, he worked both surface investigations, as well as in an undercover capacity, including the development of informants, fixed and mobile surveillance and gathering of intelligence information regarding the distribution of illicit drugs and violent crimes.

In 2018, Sergeant Aly was appointed to the rank of Detective where he was assigned to the JCPD Special Investigations Unit (S.I.U.). During his time with the Special Investigations Unit, Sergeant Aly was assigned to work alongside the NJ Attorney General’s Office – Division of Criminal Justice. He has also worked alongside the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office and numerous other local law enforcement agencies on various investigations.

Sergeant Aly was assigned to the West District Investigations Unit where he handled investigations ranging from domestic violence, aggravated and simple assaults, armed robberies, sexual assaults, burglaries, overdose deaths and more until he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2022.

Sergeant Aly is currently assigned to the North District as a patrol shift supervisor.

Prior to a career in law enforcement, Sergeant Aly worked as a Mental Health Specialist at Hoboken University Medical Center. Sergeant Aly has obtained an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice from the Hudson County Community College and a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Sociology from Rutgers University.

Sergeant Aly is a lifelong Jersey City resident and is extensively involved with the Egyptian Community and Mosques in coordinating events.
